The Dance Theater "Voodoo-Queen" is inspired by the novel "Voodoo Dreams" by Jewell Parker Rhodes.
New Orleans in the mid-nineteenth century: A potent mix of whites, Creoles, free blacks and African slaves, a city pulsing with crowds, commerce, and an undercurrent of secret power.
The source of this power is the Voodoo religion, and its queen is Marie Laveau, the notorious voodooienne worshipped and feared by blacks and whites alike.
The Storyline of "Voodoo-Queen" leads the audience into a completely different and magical world, drawing them into Marie Laveau's life ... to experience the innocence, the temptation, the magic, the shock, the struggle and ... the relief!
The choreography evokes all human emotions: love, hate, joy, sadness, curiosity, disappointment and trauma. One will experience the large variety of dance styles ranging from Ballet, Modern Dance to West African Dance and even the Brazilian martial arts form of Capoeira.
